What ages do you teach?
Ages 2 to 12. That runs from toddlers taking their very first supported floats through to older kids sharpening a front crawl.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. Private lessons are one swimmer with one instructor for the whole session, 30 minutes a lesson, five lessons Monday to Friday, at $180 per week.
Do you offer semi-private lessons?
Yes, and it is our most popular option. Semi-private takes two or three swimmers of a similar level, 45 minutes a lesson, five lessons Monday to Friday, at $135 per week per swimmer. Siblings, cousins, and neighbour friends often book together.
Where do lessons take place?
Most lessons run at Annika's outdoor backyard pool in south Winnipeg. We also travel to families' own outdoor pools across the south end, with a two hour minimum booking for those visits. A single lesson is 30 or 45 minutes, so that minimum is usually covered by running a few lessons back to back, which is why neighbouring families often share a visit.
How long are lessons?
Private lessons are 30 minutes and semi-private lessons are 45 minutes. A week is five lessons, one each day from Monday to Friday. That daily rhythm is deliberate: swimming clicks much faster when a child is back in the water the next day instead of a week later.
What should my child bring?
A swimsuit, a towel, and a swimmer ready to go. That is genuinely it. If your child uses a life jacket or goggles they are comfortable in, bring those along too.
What happens if the weather is too cold?
These are outdoor pools in Manitoba, so the weather gets a say. We do not teach through thunder, lightning, or conditions that are not safe or comfortable for your swimmer. If we have to call a lesson off, we will get in touch to reschedule.
What if my child is nervous around water?
That is one of the main reasons families come to us. A quiet backyard pool with one or two swimmers is a much gentler place to start than a busy facility. We go at your child's pace, start with getting comfortable rather than with skills, and build from there. Nervous first-timers are completely normal and very welcome.
Do you teach beginners?
Yes, including children who have never been in a pool before. Lessons start wherever your swimmer actually is, and the first sessions with a true beginner are about getting in happily, blowing bubbles, and learning that water is fun.
How do I book?
Fill in the booking form below with your swimmers, where you would like to swim, and the days that work for you. We read every request and reply personally with the lesson options we have available. You can also send us a message on Instagram if that is easier.
Does a parent need to stay?
Yes. Whether the lesson is at our pool or yours, we ask that a parent or guardian stays for the whole lesson.
When does your season run?
Our main season is June through August. If spring is warm we may open up in May as well, so it is worth asking. Outdoor pools and Manitoba weather decide that one for us.
